Two things:

1. I want to hear about your ongoing projects! Yes, yours! Have you got a nice personal website? A web 2.0 site? Anything you designed? Whatever it is, let me know about and I would love to run a feature about it within one of my next posts. Make sure you reach me via network@mittermayr.com

2. For all Austrian readers (maybe, 1, 2, or even 3?): Take a look at my latest project: http://www.drivetogether.at

Win a 60-minute coaching call with Keith Ferrazzi!

January 15, 2007

Assuming you have gotten your copy of Never Eat Alone by now, I have got some nice news for you: Keith Ferrazzi has just launched a contest today, giving away a 60-minute coaching call to the person who refers the most friends to his site. Second and third places or so will get a signed copy of the book plus a DVD. Now that’s great stuff. While most marketers try to get you do just about anything to refer them, Keith Ferrazzi seems to offer some substantial value. Here’s a video, describing the Life Coach Tool and what it’s all about:

I want YOU! And I got some links too …

December 9, 2006

Hey there folks,

it’s been a while. I have been working pretty hard lately so there wasn’t that much time for writing. But I am currently on to building new things and I could certainly require some help with it. Are you a developer? Are you a designer? Are you a genius? If you can answer at least one by yes, please, go to: http://www.hipscreen.com and find the brief details. Let me hear about your skills and we might get into some business soon…

Moreover, I’ve been working with a new client from L.A. lately: FerrazziGreenlight Inc. If you haven’t heard of their CEO, Keith Ferrazzi before, then you’ve most certainly spent the last decade indoors (and miles away from Amazon). Make sure you grab the latest copy of the most incredible book I’ve had in my hands so far: Never Eat Alone. You can find detailed infos (and sample chapters, yes good stuff!) at: http://www.keithferrazzi.com/
The book is about building relationships (in a business sense) and how such can ultimately lead to your personal success. The website says it like this:

Do you want to get ahead in life? Climb the ladder to personal success?

The secret, master networker Keith Ferrazzi claims, is in reaching out to other people. As Ferrazzi discovered early in life, what distinguishes highly successful people from everyone else is the way they use the power of relationships—so that everyone wins.

In Never Eat Alone, Ferrazzi lays out the specific steps—and inner mindset—he uses to reach out to connect with the thousands of colleagues, friends, and associates on his Rolodex, people he has helped and who have helped him.

The son of a small-town steelworker and a cleaning lady, Ferrazzi first used his remarkable ability to connect with others to pave the way to a scholarship at Yale, a Harvard MBA, and several top executive posts. Not yet out of his thirties, he developed a network of relationships that stretched from Washington’s corridors of power to Hollywood’s A-list, leading to him being named one of Crain’s 40 Under 40 and one of Davos’ Global Leader for Tomorrow.

It’s an awesome read, you should check it out. I find it particularly interesting as I do now understand why some people get their latest Web 2.0 product into quality news coverage in the FT, BusinessWeek or maybe on TV – and others lurk around low rated blogs, trying to pitch it to a group of 20 people. That’s not gonna work. Networking is THE magic.

Lastly, I’ve some more good news: There is an online tool that you can check out (it’s free! totally free!) called “Life Coach”. Well, that’s a promising name, right. But it helps you quite nicely to identify your personal, most destructive behaviors and gives pretty good hints on how you can tackle that behavior. Are you good friends with procrastination? Do you “really” listen to what other people say about you?

Check out the free step-by-step tool at: http://www.keithferrazzi.com/lifecoachtool

Summing up: I like the trend of all that. We (read: IT geeks, bloggers, developers, …) should take on more opportunities to talk to successful managers and leaders out there to show them a what the world behind the screens (i.e. the internet world) looks like and how they can utilize the power (and magic) of it. Not talking mass commerce here, but I’d spent a little fortune to IM with Jack Welch or John Sculley. But most likely they don’t really know much of this side of the force, yet. That needs to be changed. There’s soooo much besides Google. And we could need some VC money, right?

Let me hear your thoughts, comments always welcome here!

New York

August 15, 2006

Right right, it’s been a while. The reason for my delayed post is that I am currently in New York City. I am here on a 2-months term, so just in case there is anyone up for a brief networking coffee, feel free to drop me an e-email at: network@mittermayr.com

I am always curious to hear about your ideas and what you are all up to. So feel free to contact me.

Also, I wondered if there is any IT scene around here in New York that’s meeting up sometime soon – if you are from Manhattan, please, I’d be grateful if you could drop me a note.

So long

hipscreen – we are moving!

May 21, 2006

Gents, Lads,

I am glad to be back here, sorry for being such a lazy poster lately. I have been working on other projects pretty intense and there's plenty of stuff coming up soon. For now,
may I all redirect you to a totally new site, currently located at:

http://vype.org

Together with a couple of friends I've created a new community blog which is – once again – 98% focussed on Technology. While I've mostly been talking about Web 2.0 over here, we are doing SO MUCH MORE on the new blog. We'll be having a podcast and videocast and plenty of funny things coming up. This is going to be a huge thing, so make sure you head over and better forget about this blog now.

If you feel like you want to contribute, drop me a note and we'll discuss things! Love to hear about it.

Now guys, let's get into that new thing and make it happen. Come on over, it's surely going to be better than this blog as we have a couple of guys writing and that should guarantee your daily news content. You'll like it!

http://vype.org

My very best wishes guys, see you on the other "site"

The Digg Song – Make me famous, Kevin Rose

March 31, 2006

Alright, I got something brand new to present. I will put it on Digg tomorrow then but allow you guys a first preview of the whole idea behind it.

I finally wrote the first – and only – Digg.com "title song". So if you ever get digged with an article, or something, go ahead and let it out, sing a long.

You can preview the song at:
http://www.vipedio.com/roman/broke/

So, we'll see how famous it really makes me after all. Exciting …

Thanks for joining me here,
Roman

calcr.com – Widgets, Gadgets, you name it!

March 30, 2006

Have you ever had a hard time working out bills with Windows Calc? Right, you use Excel, sure. So, do you like entering formulas into Excel? I don't. Sometimes there are situations where Windows Calc is way to simple and "uncomfortable" and Excel is not worth a double click. What do you do then? Simple, Stefan Linecker did it again and brought us one more nice little widget, gadget, whatever it's called:

http://calcr.com

The interface is perfectly 2.0 styled and offers solid usability. That's all we ask for, right? Well, it does even more, but better check yourself.

What I like most: 100% client-side. Pure (like in Beer) solid JavaScript does all the fancy tricks. Although trends are going towards a more "server-based" technology, it's nice to see some working JavaScript.

If you want to discuss it with Stefan (the author) himself, then, yes, you got the exclusive opportunity to do so on our business network board at:

http://ebusiness.vipedio.com

We'll bring some more e-entrepreneurs on board soon. Just go ahead and ask whatever's on your mind there. We love to hear about your projects.

See you soon, here at Naked IT.

hotDigg finally there!

March 25, 2006

You had all been waiting for it so long, it finally arrived: The ultimate DIGG.com live-news-feed screensaver.

HOTDIGG Version 1.00
http://hotdigg.mittermayr.com/

And because I’ve created it, it’s – once again – totally free. No, don’t worry, no advertisement in the application, no malware, no spyware – just truly free software again. You finally got the chance to see the news scrolling by, either during work, or at the moment when you come back from lunch or something. Oh god, millions of ways to use it. It’s brought to you as a standalone version AND screensaver version. Woohoo.

Now, I’m bragging, sorry. I am just proud of this small gadget. Not only because it’s pretty nice to use but even more because I can’t wait to release the next version of it, which is going to be 3D! Yes, even more fancy stuff is in the factory, so stay tuned for more.

Right now, I think it’s best if you check out the original website for further information:

http://hotdigg.mittermayr.com/

Any comment on that is greatly appreciated. Use it, critize it, let’s make it better!

Internal discussions about further strategies currently at:

Thanks for your support,

WhatIsThatFile.com – SOLD!

March 3, 2006

Finally! Changed owner for $500. Many thanks to all bidders, sorry you didn’t make it. It’s been a great project for me, I’ll shed a few tears, I guess. I just loved it. But one needs to move on, so did I. Please: Stick with your projects. Most of them take a year or two to fully unfold and become a success. But I’ve learned a lot with that nice little project and I guess that’s all I ever wanted.

As a reminder, I would like to point you to an entry a few weeks ago on this blog. I announced the project, I explained all the details one needs to take care of and I just implemented it the way I suggested it. It was work, right – but I am happy to see that the idea itself went off like a small explosion. Remember that guy who bought the domain I suggested initially (Hello you!) ? It’s still not sold, wasted some $ and did nothing with it. If he had followed my guide, he would have turned his $5 into $500 by now. Poor boy. Anyway. This was done as a proof of concept and we all learned a good deal (at least those who participated to some extend or followed  through all the progress). If you have any questions on how to sell such a project or what’s important in running such a “quickie”, you can ask so in our business network board:

http://ebusiness.vipedio.com
I am currently working on another project, but I will keep curtains closed for a few more days, I guess. You’ll love it. It has got everything a Web 2.0 website needs. It’s 100% 2.0Culture so to say. More on that soon.

By the way, I’ve heard some podcast the other day, talking about my 2.0Culture guide and various other things, don’t remember the name of the gang, but the file was around 38mb (interesting to see how my brain picks out valuable information, oh god). Loved it. Although you guys were apparently chatting over Skype and recording that thing, it still was good quality talking. Let’s do a mashup podcast someday soon!

Also declined the job for Skype, was a great offer and I can really recommend everybody to apply for that company. They do a great job there and their HR directors are really nice. I just happen to have other plans ahead this summer, New York is probably waiting and there’s even more to come. I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks for staying with me, here on Naked IT.

Let me know about your blogs guys, I really love to see what you are all writing and working on. Bring them in and I’ll leave a comment on your blog! Really.
Best,
Roman
